Biography

Bruno Catarino Bispo was born in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. He received the B.Sc. degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2006, the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2008, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Unviersity of Porto, Portugal, in 2015.

From 2009 to 2012, he was a Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal. From 2015 to 2019, he was an Assistant Professor in the undergraduate Department of Electrical Engineering at the Federal Unviersity of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR), Cornélio Procópio, Brazil. Since 2019, he has been an Assistant Professor in the undergraduate Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and in the graduate Program of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Florianópolis, Brazil.

He has taught courses in the areas of signals and systems, digital signal processing and stochastic processes. His research interests are in the fields of digital and statistical signal processing, speech processing, adaptive filtering, and applied machine learning. He supervised or co-supervised 8 B.Sc. monographies and 6 M.Sc. dissertations. He has published 15 scientific papers in specialized technical journals, 33 papers in national and international scientific conferences, and 2 patents. He participated in 5 technical-scientific consulting projects for industries and 1 training consultant.

In high school he won bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro State Mathematical Olympiad. During the Ph.D. course, he was invited to give a brief presentation on his thesis to the Prime Minister of Portugal, Mr. Pedro Passos Coelho, as an example of technology developed at the University of Porto. The presentation took place at the conference Entrepreneurship 2020, held in the Portugal National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), Porto, Portugal, in March 2015. In the same year he was awarded the second prize at the iUP25K – Business Ideas Contest of the University of Porto.
